Term dates can be found in the 'Academy' section
Welcome to the newly converted Meadowgate Academy, part of the equally new Affinity Multi Academy Trust. The school converted on 1st April, honestly this is not an ‘April Fool’. Affinity Multi Academy Trust has been established to focus on developing and growing special schools in the area. We hope to grow and improve our skills, knowledge and practice within special education, by eventually partnering with other like-minded schools.
The conversion process to set up the Affinity MAT and change over the policies and legal and financial documentation has taken a lot of time. During this process the proposed Autism Free School has had to be put on hold. We hope, once the Academy is secure, we can revise the bid and push ahead with this much needed addition.
Meadowgate Academy continues to grow in strength. Two of our teachers are now accredited to deliver ELKLAN training and have rolled out a training programme for this and for Cued Articulation. KS4 have spent 2 terms reviewing the offer for Years 10 and 11 and have devised an exciting and balanced new curriculum for September 2017. Three teachers continue towards becoming accredited TEACCH tutors, hopefully next year we can deliver courses at Meadowgate Academy alongside the University of North Carolina.
Please be patient as we now have to up-date and re-brand our information. We will be posting details of the trust on this site during April to be fully compliant with the DfE.
Very best wishes
Meadowfest was a resounding success. On Friday 23rd June, staff transformed the Academy into a festival of fun where pupils could bounce and tumble on numerous inflatables; have their face painted and have a go at games like “splat the rat” and “hook a duck” or pose in the photo booth run by NCS volunteers. The pupils were surprised by an appearance from Spiderman and Paw Patrol. For pupils with sensory needs, the inflatable disco dome proved popular and an assortment of sensory experiences awaited them in the specially made beach area which everyone enjoyed. Because the event was spread across the whole Academy site, every pupil took part as they had the space to find their own level of enjoyment and participation.
Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the Grand Final of the Meadowfest’s Got Talent competition, judged by our Queen and her party who decided that the Sixth Form act, Evolution of Dance were the eventual winners in a strong field. Visiting groups from Churchill Park special school in King’s Lynn and FACET in March were able to join in the festivities and enjoyed the day. We were also treated to a special performance from a singer called Jessica who brought a touch of class to proceedings. The pupils had a fantastic day, their smiles and excitement were infectious.
Tickets for the Saturday had sold out a few days prior to the event and festival go-ers were greeted by the sight of a London Routemaster Bus parked at the Academy offering rides around Wisbech which proved very popular. The weather stayed dry, which allowed the various music and dance acts including Big Phil and the Heartbreakers, Studio 24/7, Steffany’s Adele tribute act to provide a fabulous backdrop of quality music to the festival. The face painters did a brisk trade, there were plenty of stalls to peruse including Cambs Fire and Rescue and the hog roast was excellent. The PTA provided a yummy cake stall and we were supported by a MacMillan stand. Parents and children alike had a great time in the beach area; paddling, making sandcastles or just watching it all from the deckchairs.
We were able to raise £800 on the Saturday which will go towards specialist equipment, trips and residential visits for all the pupils. This spectacular event would not have been possible without the support, time, resources and generosity given by so many people. The Academy sends out our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the pupils to all that supported us. For a full list of thank you’s and contact details, please see our website www.meadowgate.eschools.co.uk. Who needs Glastonbury? We hope to repeat Meadowfest in the future.
